Farxiga is available in the strength of 5 mg and 10 mg tablets only.
What is Farxiga used for?
Farxiga (Dapagliflozin) is a prescription medication that is used in combination with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. Dapagliflozin works by helping the kidneys remove sugar from your bloodstream. By controlling high blood sugar, you will help prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems.
What are the Possible Side Effects of Farxiga?
The common side effects may include dizziness, frequent urination and lightheadedness. The serious side effects may include:
• Difficulty breathing;
• Nausea or vomiting;
• Signs of kidney problems;
• Signs of urinary tract infection;
• Stomach or abdominal pain;
• Swelling legs or feet
Are there any Precautions and Drug interactions for Farxiga?
You should not take Farxiga if you are allergic to Dapagliflozin or if you have any other allergies. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical conditions and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications. Farxiga may enhance ability of Insulins to reduced blood sugar leading to extremely low blood sugar. Consider lowering Insulin doses when starting Farxiga. Farxiga may interact with other medications such as: thiazide diuretics, quinolones, prothionamide. Farxiga may interact with lab results testing for glucose in the urine. You may get blurred vision or dizziness and drowsiness due to extremely low or high blood sugar levels. You should not drive, use machinery or do any activity that requires you to be alert. You should also limit your alcohol intake while you are taking this medication.
Farxiga Safety and Storage Information
Farxiga should be stored at room temperature away from light and moisture and out of reach of children and pets. You should not store this medication in the bathroom.
